Tuesday’s Update from Haiti
We have 2 actual work days in of our week in Haiti. They have been very busy. We have been painting, cleaning, hauling, staining, moving things for the entire morning and even go back in the late afternoon to do more. Our first VBS on Monday was unbelievably stressful as we just had no idea what to expect! Prior to the start of the VBS , some of us went with the Principal of the Christian School here and parked in the villages surrounding our compound and actually walked on the roads in front of their houses inviting them to come to VBS. This was a very moving experience for me as the poverty all around was so very obvious. Women were cooking over open fires in front of tents or make shift tin houses or homes half constructed. It was hard to comprehend that people could and did actually live like that. Yet, so many greeted us and smiled at us and said they would come to VBS. Fhan-Fhan, the principal taught me a phrase inviting the children in Creole and I must have said it 30 times! It was amazing, though, how many children wanted to be saved following the Bible story! Even though we as Americans really have so little understanding of how to share with this culture, the Holy Spirit of God knows our hearts’ desire and uses it for His glory! On Tuesday, it was more of the same with construction followed by VBS. This one went better and it is so wonderful to watch our team-especially the teens-interact and love on these children. They hold them and play games with them and really show the love of Jesus to them in a real way. Our team has a meeting every night to talk about the day and it has been so powerful to hear what God is teaching each one. He is obviously at work not only in the hearts of the Haitian children, but in each of our hearts too! It is CSI policy that we really not have access to home while here, but they are making an exception as I had really committed to each of you, our supporters that we would keep you updated. I just can’t do it every night! We do ask you to continue to pray for the hearts of these children and for the things God wants each of us to learn. I know for myself, God has been teaching me a great deal about myself and some of it has not been pretty! God bless, deb and Kaye
