Knowing God’s Will
Several years ago, my pastor gave a series of sermons on this particular topic. The content of that series has stayed with me all these years. In that wonderful series, he stated emphatically that God really doesn’t care where you live, who you marry or what you do for a living as long as you are walking in His revealed will. He summed up God’s will for believers in this list of what God wants us to be:
1. saved (1 Tim 2:3-4)
2. Spirit-filled (Eph 5:16)
3. sanctified (1 Thess 4:3)
4. submissive servant (1 Peter 2:13-14)
5. willing to suffer (1 Peter 2:20)
6. thankful in all things (1 Thess 5:18)
I was reminded of this series recently as I read Ephesians 5:15-17 “See then that you walk circumspectly (carefully with eyes open), not as fools (a fool says in his heart, there is no God-Ps 14:1) but as wise, redeeming (making the most of) the time (my lifetime here on this earth) for the days are evil. Therefore (because the days are evil), do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the LORD is!” These it is again-the will of the LORD-which, according to my pastor’s great sermon series, is to be saved, Spirit-filled, sanctified, submissive servant, willing to suffer and thankful in all things!
What freedom that brings! We don’t have to agonize over whether to move here or there, marry this one or that one (just pick the one who is also following hard after God’s will in that he/she is s-S-s-s-s-t!), whether we work at this job or that (understanding that some jobs would prevent you from growing spiritually if you were doing them!). You don’t have to get all bent out of shape seeking after God’s will for your life! He makes it very clear-you are in God’s will if you are s-S-s-s-s-t!!! I just wanted to encourage you with this truth today!!
