Day 1 in Haiti!
We took off for Tampa at 3:30 this morning and ended up sitting on the tarmac through a huge thunder storm. We were still on the tarmac at 9:30 when we were supposed to be in Miami loading for Haiti! We got to Miami at 10:10 and were met at the arrival gate by a fast cart and a very funny man who raced on through the terminal to our gate. GOD had the plane WAIT for us!!! As we approached the gate, the gate people rushed us off the cart and ran with us down the entry to the plane! We were the last ones on!! It was a wild trip. We got to Haiti-what a beautiful site as we approached the island, but as we neared the ground, obvious devastation was all around and much evidence of poverty. It brought tears to our eyes! We made it through customs and immigration and were met by the CSI director, but no luggage!! We drove through Port Au Prince (now, that was an experience!!! They have no rules of the road and really no real roads! ). We had a great lunch at the compound we are staying at, met the little girls in the orphanage and got all kinds of hugs. We enjoyed being with the missionaries, Tony and Tracy, then a couple of us returned to the airport to pick up the 16 bags of HEAVY luggage! We had brought clothes for children, food for the missionaries and odds and ends they can’t get here. It was so rewarding to be able to bring such things! It is warm here, but beautiful-mountains off in the distance and flowering trees amidst hovels that are homes to many many people. We begin early tomorrow with construction projects and meet our first village children in the afternoon for VBS. Pray we can share Jesus so clearly! Pray we can be Jesus with skin on to everyone we meet. Pray we stay healthy-haven’t had much sleep, but aren’t missing it yet!! I won’t be able to blog every day as it is CSI policy! Love you all! God bless, deb and Kaye
